1.From 7:00 a.m. (working days), users may reserve seats for the current or next day. Once the reservation is successful, the seat can be used until library closing time. Log in to the reservation system with your student/faculty/staff ID and the same password used for authentication credentials.
2.Users can reserve and use seats in three ways:
(1)Reserve a seat before 8:00 a.m., enter before 8:00 a.m. (for the reserved day),and access the library . through the turnstiles - the system will automatically record your sign-in.
(2)During opening hours, you may reserve a seat online outside the library and must enter the library within 30 minutes after completing the reservation for automatic sign-in.
(3)You may access the library first through the turnstiles, then reserve a seat online or via a seat reservation machine; the system will automatically record your sign-in upon successful reservation.
3.Users who have reserved seats for the next day must enter the library before 8:30 a.m. the following day for the system to record their sign-in automatically.
4.Cancelling a reservation.
Reservations for the next day may be canceled before 7:00 a.m. the following day (no limit on cancellation attempts). Same-day reservations may be canceled only once per day. To cancel, go to My Account - My Reservation - Cancel My Reservation.
5.Failure to sign in.
If users fail to sign in within the time limits specified in Rules 2 and 3, and do not cancel the reservation within the time stated in Rule 4, they will receive one violation record for “Failure to sign in.”
6.Temporary leave. Users may select “Temporary Leave” on the seat reservation machine, website, or ECNU WeChat account. The system will hold the seat for 60 minutes (or 120 minutes during 10:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m. and 90 minutes during 4:30–7:00 p.m.) from the time of departure. Returning within the allowed time and entering via the turnstiles will automatically complete sign-in. Users who select “Temporary Leave” but do not must still sign in within the allowed time. Failure to return within the reserved time,the seat will be declared vacant and a violation record for “Overtime Temporary Leave.”
7.Leaving the library.
Users must swipe their campus card at the turnstiles each time they leave the library (including temporary leaves). Otherwise, a violation for “Leaving without swipe-out” will be recorded. Users who leave without selecting “Temporary Leave” will have their seats automatically vacant.
8.Users without a campus account for the ECNU authentication credentials (such as alumni) cannot reserve seats online in advance. They can only reserve seats on site using the seat reservation machine after entering the library.
9.Users are expected to maintain good order in the library. Do not move furniture arbitrarily. Please take care of personal belongings and remove them before closing (except for items in authorized lockers). The library will not be responsible for any loss caused by clearance of left items.
Appendix: Types of Violations
1.Failure to sign in: this occurs when a user successfully reserves a seat but fails to sign in within the required time (via turnstiles or seat reservation machine).
2.Overtime Temporary Leave: this occurs when a user selects “Temporary Leave” but does not return and sign in within the allowed time.
3.Leaving without swipe-out: this occurs when a reader leaves without swiping their campus card and later re-enters the library. Users leaving after 9:00 p.m. without swiping out will not be penalized unless they re-enter the library that night. Once re-entered, the previously reserved seat will be automatically be vacant.
Note: Violation records from both Zhongbei and Minhang Campuses are cumulative.
Users with five violations of any type will be suspended from using or reserving seats for three calendar days. After the suspension period ends, all violation records will be cleared, and reservation privileges will be restored.
