The Ancient Books Preservation Center is mainly responsible for the management, cataloging, reading services, consultation, and restoration of special collections, including thread-bound ancient books (as well as some reprinted series editions) and publications from the Republic of China period. The Center is also in charge of the services and management of the Ancient Books and Special Collections Reading Room at the Minhang Campus Library.

Reader Services: Ancient Books and Special Collections Reading, Reference Consultation, and Teaching Support | Provision of closed-stack ancient book retrieval services and assistance with open-shelf reprinted series location; Guidance for accessing electronic resources of ancient books and Republican-era publications; |
Collection Management, Census, and Acquisition Suggestions | Recording and management of ancient and special collection material circulation; Management of ancient book and special collection stacks in accordance with the Basic Requirements for Ancient Book and Special Collection Repositories issued by the Ministry of Culture; |
Cataloging and Processing | Classification, cataloging, and processing of uncatalogued ancient books; Compile machine-readable catalogs of ancient books to meet CALIS quality standards. |
Preservation and Restoration | Binding and restoration of ancient and special collection books, ensuring compliance with the Technical Specifications and Quality Requirements for Ancient Book Restoration set by the Ministry of Culture. |
Digitization, Promotion, and Utilization | Digitization and development of thematic databases for selected ancient book collections; Promotion of ancient book resources through offline exhibitions, WeChat posts, and virtual exhibitions; |
Talent Development in Ancient Book Preservation | Delivery of workshops on traditional papermaking, woodblock printing, rubbing techniques, mounting of calligraphy and paintings, and ancient book restoration; Provision of teaching support for courses on textual editions, ancient book appreciation, and inscription appreciation. |
Other Developmental Tasks Related to Departmental Work | Interdepartmental collaboration to advance the construction of the Future Learning Center; Expansion of interdisciplinary embedded services in partnership with academic departments; |
