The Collection Doevelopment Center is responsible for the acquisition and cataloging of all types of library materials, including Chinese and foreign language books, journals and newspapers, electronic resources such as databases and e-books/e-journals, as well as CDs, DVDs, and other audiovisual materials.

The Center operates under a fully computerized management system and maintains extensive partnerships with domestic and international book vendors to ensure the timely procurement of resources. It also works closely with departmental reading rooms and faculty book selectors to gather feedback and recommendations for acquisitions, ensuring that library resources meet teaching and research needs. In addition, the Center manages domestic and international document exchange programs, obtaining rare or internal publications through exchanges—particularly international ones—to enrich the library’s collections. The Center is responsible for the full acquisition workflow, including selection, ordering, invoicing, verification, and processing of materials.

Its cataloging work focuses on describing and indexing each document to reveal its content and bibliographic characteristics, organizing materials systematically to facilitate efficient retrieval from multiple perspectives. The Center applies modern information technologies to ensure cataloging follows standardized formats. Monthly bulletins of newly acquired Chinese and foreign books are published, and readers can check them through the online catalog on the library website.
